How should I demo an AI receptionist to a business owner so it closes the sale?

Votel recommends a short demo built around one moment: the business owner hearing the AI answer the phone as their own business. Most of the skill is knowing when to stop talking and stop selling.

If you reach a lead by phone, try to bring them into a meeting right then instead of scheduling a demo they may not show up to. Ask whether you should email or text them the link to join the Votel meeting. Two yes options work better than a yes or no question.

  1. Ask about their business: how long they have been in business and whether they are growing. People love talking about their business.
  2. Ask whether they have a website and pull it up while they talk. If they have none, use your own.
  3. If their website is weak, paste the URL into the AI assistant, ask it to rebuild the site, and let it build in the background.
  4. Share your screen and show only agent creation. Go to AI agents, click to create an agent, choose Start from a website and enter their website URL.
  5. Make small talk for 15 to 30 seconds and tell them what the AI is doing. It crawls the site and in about 30 seconds builds their AI receptionist with facts and FAQs from their website. Show them the facts and FAQs and say it is a starting point you will customize. Do not walk them through the options.
  6. Click Test and role play as one of their customers, for example telling an HVAC company that your air conditioning died and is blowing hot air, or telling a personal injury attorney that you slipped and fell at work.
  7. Do two turns: you speak and the AI replies, then you speak again and the AI replies. Then mute and ask the owner what they think. If you leave the AI connected, after about 10 to 15 seconds it asks "Are you still there?", which reminds them the AI is live. Then end the call.
  8. If they love it, stop. Do not show voices, workflows, the CRM or social media. Go to your price and the value you provide, collect payment information and ask for the sale while they are excited.
  9. If they are not happy, find out why and handle objections one at a time. If it is the voice, there are more than 10,000 voices and you can clone their own voice. If they want full control over what the AI says (for compliance or particular clients), show how you can script every phrase by connecting conversation nodes in a workflow, for example asking "sales or support?" and routing each answer to a fixed reply. If they ask about booking, it integrates with their calendar to book appointments.

Do not go down the rabbit hole of every integration or what-if question (another language, a particular CRM, webhooks). The more you show, the more doubts grow and the more likely a question you cannot answer. The answer is that the platform can do almost anything and the question is how, which is part of setup. Sign them up first, then work out the details.

Run the demo yourself rather than letting the owner try it alone. Business owners are usually bad at role playing a caller to their own business and may freeze or ask something odd. If you sell services such as social media management or Google reviews, ask yourself whether you need a demo at all.
